First residents in New Jersey
The first resident of New Jersey was the Dutch, lead by Henry Hudson, who was under the control of The Dutch East India Company. He was in search of the Northeast Passage, a river that connected the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. After that came the Swedes, whom wanted to a colony in this area. They had a whole lot less people than the Dutch, though, so the Dutch easily got them to leave, and they surrendered without a fight.
The English already had colonies in the area surrounding New Jersey, but King Charles II wanted another.
The English now owns the colony and we are under the rule of the King of England.
